Family heirloom brought to the US
from Russia. In working condition. Made of brass and all
original, we believe it is circa early 1900's.
Samovars have been a symbol of eastern European hospitality,
comfort, and prosperity since their creation in the 18th
century. They were used to make tea or coffee, similar to a
modern day coffee urn. Coal or fuel goes in the heating cylinder
in the center, surrounded by the tea water.
This very fine Russian samovar has a square footed base and a nicely
detailed spigot. The base itself is beautifully designed as
well. The body has two handles created out of wood and brass.
There are two wooden knobs on the lid, but the chimney is
missing
This piece has terrific patina, and is in great shape for its
age with expected age appropriate wear.
