Turkish Samovar circa 1910

Antique

Antique Turkish Samovar, circa 1900.

Family heirloom brought to the US from Turkey. Rare brass samovar complete with chimney and ash trap. Stamped in several places with the logo "Garanti Semaverleri." In working condition. Made of brass and all original, we believe it is circa early 1900's or quite possibly the late 19th c.

Samovars have been a symbol of eastern European hospitality, comfort, and prosperity since their creation in the 18th century. They were used to make tea or coffee, similar to a modern day coffee urn. Coal or fuel goes in the heating cylinder in the center, surrounded by the tea water.

This very fine samovar consists of five pieces and has a square footed base. It measures 22" tall, and 12" handle to handle. The nicely detailed spigot is 4" long. The base itself is beautifully designed as well. The body has two handles created out of wood and brass. There is a turned wood handle coming off of the brass chimney and two wooden knobs on the lid.

This piece has terrific patina, and is in great shape for its age with expected age appropriate wear.
